Latter is often confused with later. Latter refers to the second of two things, while later refers to something happening after a certain time.

latter is also frequently used with former, which refers to the first one mentioned

A simple tip to remember former and latter is to think of them as first and last, with the f in former corresponding with the f in first, and the l in latter corresponding with the l in last.
